East of Eden
I've had a hard time reconciling John Steinbeck's personal shortcomings with his fiction writing; the empathy, care and sensitivity shown in East of Eden and his other work seem to be at odds with reports of the violence and cruelty in his personal life. Nonetheless, I consider this a beautiful novel.
Cat’s Eye
Infinite Jest
Lord of the Rings (The Hobbit, LOTR Trilogy, The Silmarillion, etc.)
Siddhartha
This could be argued to be in the Essay/Philosophy section. I read this first in my high school English class and have reread it many times since. An insightful question asked by my teacher at the time: Hesse was a German-Swiss poet and novelist. What was he trying to convey in this novel, and why did he choose the story of the Buddha as its conduit?

Figuring
Likely my favorite piece of writing of all time. Popova weaves a beautiful web of human connection underlying the communities of art, literature, and science, beginning with Johannes Kepler in the 16th century and continuing up to the modern era. The book reads as an exploration, leaving theses and conclusions to be drawn by the reader.
Me Talk Pretty One Day
They Can't Kill Us Until They Kill Us
The Order of Time
Six Memos for the New Millenia

9 Out of 10 Climbers Make the Same Mistakes
Training for the Uphill Athlete
I consider this the definitive source for mountain athlete endurance training. The book encompasses theory, implementation and practice of effective endurance training to a high level of detail.
Tactical Barbell
No-nonsense strength training manual. The theory detailed (Keep it simple, focus on the basics, disregard fitness industry bullshit) resonated with me, and the programs line up with the theory and are effective.
